She attended Roosevelt High School on Oahu, where she cultivated a life-long friend group; two of whom still reside in Hawaii. Her high school years were also marked by World War II. She and her classmates were often excused from classes to help with harvesting pineapples. She graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1943.

As an adult, Agnes moved to the mainland to join her sister Laura and brother-in-law Cliff and attended Boston University where she graduated with a degree in Interior Design in 1952 after working in retail. It was in Boston that she met William H. Chin. The two were married and settled on Long Island, New York, where they raised four children: David, Westley, Laurel, and Andrea.

Agnes was actively involved in her local community and was a charter member of the Congregational Church of Huntington in New York where she was also a deaconess and the church school registrar. After the death of her husband William in 1989, she married Leonard Schieber , whom she met through her church and they resided on Long Island for a number of years before moving to Florida. Agnes and Leonard remained in Florida until his death in 2018. Afterwards, Agnes moved back north again to Acton, MA where she could be closer to her family.
