Agustina "Tina" Duran Mendoza, 88, of Littleton, MA and loving wife of Carlos Mendoza, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5th, 2020.
Tina was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on June 18, 1931, daughter of the late Pedro and Haydée Mujica de Villar. She spent her childhood in Buenos Aires and received her IB degree from the Immaculate Conception Institute in Buenos Aires. Fluent in seven languages, Tina worked as a translator and interpreter. In 1960 she met her husband, Carlos Mendoza, a research chemist, while on a plane ride to New York City. They were married in 1963, settling in the New York area. They raised four children in New Jersey, Connecticut, and later Massachusetts. They retired to Reston, VA and later returned to Massachusetts, settling in Littleton.
Tina was a lifelong learner. She studied Gerontology at Boston University and studied at Harvard University Divinity School. She became a hospice volunteer and studied Hebrew in preparation for a trip with Carlos to the Holy Land. Tina later assisted Fr. Kiernan Kavanagh, member of the Discalced Carmelite Order, with the translation of volumes of letters written by St. Teresa de Avila.
Tina is survived by her husband, Carlos Mendoza, her four children, Alex Mendoza and his wife Marlena of Ridgefield, CT, Clarice Shirvell and her husband George of Ridgefield, CT, Jane-Marie Norton and her husband Richard, of Reston, VA, Mark Mendoza and his wife Nora of Littleton, MA, and her grandchildren, Julia, Peter, Matthew, Ryan, John Carlos, John Francis, Cecilia, Lily, Justin, and Daniel.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
