Alford Dyson Jr.

August 7, 1936 — June 30, 2025

Groton, Massachusetts

It is with deep love and sorrow, we share the passing of our dad, Alford Dyson Jr. — a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend — who left us peacefully at the age of 88.

Alford shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Edda, whom he lovingly called “Sweetie.” Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures.

He was a proud father to Todd Dyson and Jenepher Spencer, and nothing brought him greater joy than being “Pop Pop” to his cherished grandchildren, Kylie and Chase Spencer.

Alford spent much of his career at MIT, where he found purpose, respect, and lifelong friendships. A lifelong learner and educator, he was deeply passionate about creating new ways to engage students and expand minds. His work in education reflected his belief in the power of knowledge to open doors and shape lives.

An avid writer and photographer, Alford captured life’s moments through thoughtful stories and beautiful photo collages — especially from travels to South Africa and Scotland with Edda.

He will be remembered for his warmth, wit, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in his children, grandchildren, and the many lives he touched, guided, and helped shape along the way.

We will be honoring Alford’s life in a private gathering with those he held dearest. The family deeply appreciates your love and support.

Services will be Private.
