Lunenburg – Alice Beverly (Bernard) Leeds, age 86, formerly of Townsend, MA, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on July 28, 1938, in Montague, Massachusetts, Alice was the daughter of Harry Merrel and Gertrude M. (Neal) Bernard.
Alice's life was filled with a deep passion for music, which she shared with friends and family at numerous concerts and events throughout the years. She was a dedicated reader, always seen with a book in hand, and her curiosity for new experiences often took her on adventures—whether flying to distant destinations, embarking on long road trips, or simply enjoying a leisurely Sunday drive. Her love for animals, especially the many dogs she rescued over the years, brought her immense joy. These companions were pampered under her care and held a special place in her heart.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Laurie A. Leeds of Lunenburg, and Laurie’s companion, James B. Hayes III, of Sterling. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Bernard, and his wife, Shirley, of Apopka, FL. Alice was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Gordon W. Leeds, as well as her sister, Beatrice Heffner, and brothers, Henry and Albert Bernard.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nursing staff at Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Hanover Hospice for the exceptional care and dignity they provided Alice over the last year and a half of her long battle with Alzheimer's.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Alice’s life for a graveside service and interment at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling, Massachusetts, at a date and time to be announced.
