Allen Charles Hirtle

March 5, 1925 — December 9, 2016

Allen Charles Hirtle age 91 of Ayer formerly of Littleton passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2016 at his residence.  He was the beloved and devoted husband of 61 years to Joan E. (Price) Hirtle.


Born in Milton on March 5, 1925 he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude (Allen) Hirtle.  Allen was raised and educated in Quincy, MA, graduating from North Quincy High School in 1942.  He started at Northeastern University before enlisting in the United States Army in 1944.  He proudly served his country during WWII and was awarded an American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal  Upon his return home he returned to Northeastern University earning his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  He received his MS degree from Northeastern University.


Allen and Joan married on April 16, 1955 and soon settled in Braintree, MA.   He began a successful and rewarding career with Honeywell Corporation for 25 years retiring in 1987 year.


Allen enjoyed spending time with his family, singing in chorale groups, playing the piano, and rooting for the various Boston sports teams.


Along with his wife he is survived by his children, Christopher R. Hirtle of Haverhill, Andew D. Hirtle of Worcester and Sarah A. Glaser of Fallbrook, CA and his grandchildren Harrison and Jensen Glaser.  He was also the brother of the late Paul E. Hirtle.


Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Allen on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton.  His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in the funeral home.  Burial with U.S. Army Military Honors will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Acton.


In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Volunteer Humane Society, 505 Center Bridge, Rd., Lancaster, MA 01523
