Allston Perley Briggs

June 7, 1935 — March 9, 2010

Allston P. Briggs, age 74, died March 9, 2010 in his home in Pepperell.

He was born June 7, 1935, a son to the late George Dewey and Ada Elizabeth (MacIntosh) Briggs, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home in Pepperell.

Allie was the devoted husband of Teresa (Dupre) Briggs of Pepperell, and the brother of Leslie Briggs of Kensington, NH.

A native of West Newbury Mass., Allie graduated from Newburyport High School in 1953 with High Honors. Allie served in the Army from 1954-1960.

Allie was the beloved father of Dale E. Briggs of Worcester, MA, Cheryl A. Richards and her husband Michael of Cookeville, TN, Michelle Magee and husband Michael of Cotuit, MA, Katherine M. Dupre, of San Diego, CA, Tesa M. Nickerson of New Boston, NH, and Sheila D. Briggs of Townsend, MA.

For 45 years Allie was a truck driver for Nashua Motor Express, and a member of the Teamsters Union for 28 years. Allie made many friends along his route which took him from Nashua NH to Springfield MA each day. Allie received a certificate of recognition demonstrating his commitment to highway safety, from the New Hampshire Highway Watch training program. Allie retired in November 2009.

Allie owned and operated "Briggs & Munn", a sand, gravel, loam, tractor work and leeching systems business from 1962 through the early 70's. For many years Allie continued to provide plowing and landscaping services to local residents and businesses. On the weekends Allie could always be found with a chain saw or tool in his hand, or behind the wheel of one his many tractors. His tireless devotion in keeping his wood shed well stocked, grass cut, snow plowed, or gardens tended to paralleled his passion for hard work. Allie's life reflected his philosophy that "Nothing is for free, you have to work for it, nobody owes you anything." With a quiet and generous nature, Allie would often plow the driveways of neighbors and around mailboxes, always striving to make life easier for those around him. Allie enjoyed reading, gardening, collecting antique memorabilia, and took great pride in his extensive collection of die cast model trucks. Allie and Terry raised many animals over the years, in the early years operating a small farm with chickens, pigs, cows, horses, and cats. On the CB Radio Allie was known as "Barnyard". Allie and Terry enjoyed many years riding their motorcycles and snowmobiles together, blazing many trails with the Pepperell Snowmobile Club.
Allie will be sadly missed by his wife Terry of 45 years, his six children, nine grand-children, great-grand child, nieces, nephews, and many friends, neighbors and associates.
