Barbara Jane Hume Bentley

Barbara Jane Hume Bentley, 87, passed away peacefully at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 30th, 2017.  Barbara is the daughter of the late Harry and Hazel Dowsett Hume. 

Barbara leaves her husband George Bentley, children Darlene Bentley Shnaper and Bruce Bentley, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. 

Barbara is predeceased by siblings Betty Hume Fisher, Muriel Hume Michaels, Donald Hume, and Dorothy Hume Andrews. Barbara's living siblings are Edward Hume, Shirley Hume Verhoeven, and Carol Hume Conover. 

Barbara grew up in New London, CT and is a graduate of W.M.I. She loved the beach and spent many happy days at Ocean Beach Park with her family and friends. Barbara loved the theater and frequently attended shows in Boston and New York.

Barbara and George bought a home on Pattagansett Lake in East Lyme, CT in 1960.  Barbara loved hosting family gatherings at the lake. Barbara made everyone feel welcome. Her family and friends have fond memories of summer gatherings at the lake. 

Barbara and her sisters are affectionately known to their children as "The Hume Girls". The Hume Girls are the core of a family that includes a combined number of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that is 35 and growing.

The family will hold a celebration of Barbara's life in June.
