Barbara Ann Field

January 29, 1938 — June 13, 2023

Littleton, Massachusetts

Barbara Ann Field, 85 of Littleton, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Born in North Adams, Massachusetts on January 29, 1938 Barbara was the daughter to the late John J., and Mary E. (Röedel) Shaw.  She attended Saint Joseph High School in North Adams and then enrolled into Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsfield; graduating as Valedictorian with her bachelor’s degree from Franklin Pierce.

Barbara was a selfless wife, mother and grandmother who shared unconditional love. To know Barbara was to love her. In her early life growing up in North Adams, Barbara discovered her love of gardening at a young age. She had special memories of time spent with her father traveling by train to watch the Red Sox on his days off. She was married at age 21 to the love of her life, Frederick Field or “Donnie” as she adoringly called him. They remained married for 64 years. Barbara raised five boys in a home filled with love and her unending patience. She was a consummate hostess who enjoyed entertaining and made everyone who entered her home feel welcome. Barbara loved the water, especially the lake she lived on. She passed on that love of lake life to her children and grandchildren. Barbara played an active role in the Littleton Neighborhood Supper as well as her position in the Rotary Club. Later in life she loved to travel with her husband and take beautifully planned trips with her best girlfriends. She was very happy spending her winters at her home in Hollywood, Florida. Barbara added happiness, enthusiasm, love and her beautiful smile into everything she did from cooking, gardening, taking care of her pets, and most especially being with her family.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her son, Gregory Charles Field in 1987.

Barbara is lovingly survived by her husband, Frederick D. Field, Jr.; sons and daughters, John and Khristine Field, Matthew and Sheila Field, David and Elizabeth Field, Michael and Janet Field, and her honorary son, John Hillier. Grandchildren, Lauren Field, Melissa (Field) Mann, Emily Field, Colby Field, Katherine (Field) Gonzalez, Kylie Field, Taylor (Field) Tower, Olivia Field, Matthew Field, Benjamin Field, Nicholas Field, Isabelle Field.; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Michael and Logan Mann, and Savannah Tower.
