Barbara Ann (Heppell) Massapica passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John F. Massapica.
She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on September 4, 1932, a daughter to the late Thomas and Elizabeth M. (Brown) Heppell. Along with her parents, she is also predeceased by her brother, Thomas R. Heppell.
Barbara married John F. Massapica at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Lowell, in August 1969. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage until John’s passing in 2018. Barbara was a long-time resident of Littleton, Massachusetts.
She graduated from Lowell High School in 1949 and moved into the working world. Barbara worked for many years at Courier Corp in Lowell and then at Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard. She also worked and enjoyed socializing at the Old Oaken Bucket in Westford (now the 99 Restaurant). Barbara and John enjoyed the social scene and often spent weekend nights dancing to live music in the area.
Barbara was a true friend to many and a giver to many of her favorite charities. She was never happier than when she was watching the many birds she fed year-round in her backyard. Hummingbirds held a special place in her heart, and she always looked forward to their arrival in the spring. Her love of animals, especially kitty cats and puppy dogs, was obvious in her charitable donations and conversations. She and John enjoyed the company of their beloved cat, Marlee, for over 10 years.
Friends will remember the kindness, quick wit, and directness of Barbara’s personality. Her friends have many stories about how Barbara’s responses often surprised them. She was always able to bring laughter to each and every conversation.
Barbara will be missed by those who knew her, but there is comfort in knowing that she is with the love of her life, John.
No services are planned.
