May of Leominster formerly of Harvard Barbara Ann (Kraus) May RN, MS November 14,2014 passed away peacefully at Sunrise Senior Living in Leominster Ma, surrounded by her friends there after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Winthrop Ma, August 21, 1934 daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Reilly) Kraus and lived primarily in Harvard Ma. She is survived by a sister, Sister Barbara Theresa, Order of SND (known in secular life as Marie Kraus), Worcester Ma and a daughter Sandra May of Highland Falls NY.
Barbara graduated from Boston College's nursing program with a B.S. in 1955 a Masters in Guidance and Counseling Fitchburg State College, M.S. Boston University Maternal Child Health and post masters studies at the University of Lowell.
She served in the United States Army and spent 2 years with the Army's Corp of Nurses. She then spent several years working for local doctors and hospitals in the area. She then became a nursing educator at the former Burbank School of Nursing then at Fitchburg State University where she remained until her retirement in 2005 after 30 plus years. After teaching future nurses in her tenure her head hospice nurse was a former student of hers, her teaching went full circle.
She was member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, Massachusetts Nurses Association: Nominating Committee Professional Practice, Board of Directors-District H, Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses. She also was the recipient of the Fitchburg State Distinguished Service Award.
Barbara also served her community as a part time emergency dispatcher in the town of Harvard, the Harvard council of aging and was a parishioner at Holy Trinity church in Harvard serving in several roles including lector and was a Eucharistic minister serving at Leominster Hospital. She enjoyed the activities of knitting, reading, spending time with her close group of friends from her Boston College class as well as caring for all her cats and dogs she had throughout her life.

Friends are invited to calling hours on Wed 3-7PM at Badger Funeral Home 347 King St. in Littleton MA. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Thursday at Holy Trinity Church Still River Rd. Harvard Ma with burial following at Belleview Cemetery in Harvard.
