David W. Butler

March 31, 1947 — April 3, 2014

David W. Butler, 67 of Hollis NH and formerly of Groton, MA lost his battle with cancer on April 3, 2014. Born in Boston on March 31, 1947, he was the son of Virginia (Wooding) Butler and the late Mark T. Butler, Jr. He grew up in Billerica, MA where he attended Billerica High School. He celebrated 48 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart JoAnn Tetreault, raised four children in Groton and enjoyed summers on Cape Cod and in Florida.

David owned and operated D&J Construction, Inc. for more than 25 years, and recently retired to Hollis, NH. He enjoyed traveling, telling stories, and tinkering with anything that had a motor. Mostly, he loved spending time with his nine grandchildren: Nichole, Jessica, Joshua, and Nathan Rabbitt of Groton MA; Daniel and Andrew Cullen (USMC) of Ashby MA; and Benjamin, Lydia, and Frank Butler of Lunenburg, MA.

David is survived by his mother Virginia of Fitchburg, MA; his wife JoAnn (Tetreault) Butler of Hollis, NH; his daughter Deborah Cullen of Ashby, his daughter Lisa Butler of Winchendon; his daughter Christine Rabbitt of Groton, MA; and his son David W. Butler, Jr. of Lunenburg, MA. He is also survived by five siblings: Donald Butler of Fitchburg, MA; William Butler of Pepperell, MA; Richard Butler of Townsend, MA; Carol Jones of Lunenburg, MA; and Diane Moore of Lowell, MA.

Visiting hours will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton, MA on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 4-7 pm; a brief Memorial Service will take place at 6:30 pm. A reception will follow at the Franco American Club, Westford, MA. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The Jimmy Fund Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to help families struggling with cancer.
