David Jay Spalding age 65, loving husband of Mary A (Maggie) Spalding and resident of Littleton, MA passed away November 21, 2020 after a brief illness.
Dave was born in December 19, 1954 at US Army Base Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana son of Jay and Irene (Antkievicze) Spalding. He was a graduate of Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University and a proud veteran of the US Air Force where he retired after 21 years of service achieving the rank of Master Sergeant.
Dave's 21-year, highly decorated military service spanned from the Vietnam Era to Operation Desert Storm where he served as a flight engineer on KC10 Tankers and as an aircrew instructor.
After leaving the Air Force Dave continued to fly around the world as a flight engineer for Leisure Air, World Airways and Air Tran Airways. Dave was an avid pilot and was active in E.A.A Chapters in California and West Virginia. He continued his love of all things aviation as he worked as an aviation mechanic in West Virginia, Georgia and Arizona.
Dave was a proud and active member in veteran's organizations as he and Maggie traveled the USA including being a Life Member of the V.F.W. and most recently a Trustee of the VFW Post 6556 of Nashoba Valley in Littleton.
Dave is survived by his wife Mary (Holmes) Spalding, his step mother Annie Spalding of Alabama, his sons Jason and Douglas as well as his four grandchildren Greyson, Haley, Jordan and Zander all of Colorado, his sister Alice Pelletier and her wife Milly Harman of California, Melissa and Bill Belcher, Jeff and Sue Hendrix all of Alabama. Dave will be dearly missed by his loving in-laws Eileen and Steve Stebbins of Arkansas, Donna Holmes, Marlene and Pat Agresti and David and Debbie Holmes all of Massachusetts as well as many nephews and nieces.
David is preceded in death by his father Jay, his mother Irene as well as his in-laws Arthur & Marguerite Holmes and brother in law Arthur Holmes Jr.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember David for a period of visitation on Sunday November 29, 2020 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm in the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 30, 2020 at St. Ann's Church, 75 King St, Littleton. interment in The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne will follow at 2:00 pm.
