Doris E. Starkie, 85, of 103 Main Street, Pepperell, MA died July 25, 2009 at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of Robert E. Starkie who died in 1979.

She was born in Pepperell, MA on August 4, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Mazie (Boulia) Williams. A lifelong resident of Pepperell, she was educated in the Pepperell School System. She was employed at Bemis Company in Pepperell for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3291 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Bemis Company 20 year club and enjoyed many activities at the Pepperell Senior Center. She attended St. Joseph Church in Pepperell.

She is survived by one son, Robert E. Starkie, Jr. of Pepperell, MA, two daughters, Karen Adamson and husband James of Ayer and Nancy Starkie of Tyngsboro, MA; 3 grandchildren, Laurie Norman and husband Ron, Timothy Adamson and wife Jessica, and Thomas Adamson and wife Christine; 5 great-grandchildren, Emily Norman, Tucker Norman, Christian Adamson, Dylan Adamson and Riley Adamson. She is pre-deceased by 3 brothers, Roger, Leonard and George Williams and 3 sisters, Gertrude Austin, Isabel Conrad and Eleanor Soucy.

Relatives and friends may call at the Marchand Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Pepperell, MA on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
