Dorothy Andrews

Dorothy M. Andrews, 93 of Harvard, MA died on May 1, 2015. She was born in Thornaby-on-Tees, Yorkshire, England on March 24,1922, daughter of the late Frederick and Lena (Hardy) Ellis. She graduated from Sheffield University in Sheffield, England.

She proudly survived the Battle of Britain and later came to America as a war bride in 1947 after marrying Robert W. Andrews. They remained married for 49 years until his death in 1996.

The family moved to Harvard in 1965. "Dr. Dot" was chairman of the Science Department and taught Biology at the Bromfield School in Harvard for 25 years.

Dorothy had a lifelong reverence for the Earth, was a scholar of Charles Darwin, had a passion for traveling, books, writing, music and botany and treasured her family and friends.

Her survivors include a son Peter F. Andrews and a granddaughter Ruth S. Sardinia-Andrews of Yelm, Washington and a daughter Meriel C. Moner, son-in-law John G. Moner and a granddaughter Emily A. Moner of Amherst, Massachusetts.

A Memorial service will be held at 10am on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 164 Newtown Rd., Acton MA. Burial will be at Bellevue Cemetery, Harvard, MA. In lieu of flowers remembrances in honor of Dorothy may be made to New England Wild Flower Society, 180 Hemenway Rd., Framingham, MA 01701 or online at newenglandwild.org and go to their tribute giving program page and click to make a memorial gift.
