Dr. Howard S. Markowitz

Jan 23, 1954 — Oct 12, 2026

Acton, Massachusetts

Dr. Howard S. Markowitz, age 72, of Acton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Howard Steven Markowitz was born in the Bronx, New York, on January 23, 1954, a son of the late Joseph and Sylvia (Goldfarb) Markowitz, and brother of the late Ronnie Markowitz.

Raised in New York, Howard skipped two grades and attended the Bronx High School of Science. He went on to Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he earned his undergraduate degree and met his future wife, Sandy, and then to Columbia University's dental school, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree.

Howard married Sandra and resided in several towns throughout Massachusetts. They raised their family in Boxborough, MA.

A dedicated and respected dentist, Dr. Markowitz enjoyed a rewarding career in dentistry, operating successful dental practices in Leominster and Littleton for many years. Throughout his career, he was committed to providing compassionate, personalized care to his patients. His professionalism, sense of humor, and genuine concern for others earned him the respect and appreciation of his patients, colleagues, and the communities he served.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Howard cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a self-described average golfer who spent a small fortune on golf equipment, but always found it easier to blame his clubs than his swing. His children, Stephen, Jessica, and Eric, all inherited what Howard called the genetic prize of loving to make people laugh. He led with humor no matter the situation, and his ability to connect with people and make them smile will always be remembered.

Howard is survived by his loving children, Stephen Markowitz and his wife Lynn, Jessica Markowitz, and Eric Markowitz; their mother, Sandra Markowitz; and his cherished grandchildren, Jakob, Calvin, and Bennett. He also leaves behind many friends, including his best friend Steve Schultz, who stood with Howard through all of life's obstacles, and colleagues who will remember him fondly.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Howard on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton, Massachusetts.
