Dr. Ty Lee Hudgens, age 34, of Townsend, Massachusetts, formerly of Bakersfield, California, passed away on October 30, 2023. He was the fiercely loving husband of Roman Paul Hudgens.
Ty Lee Hudgens was born in Anderson, South Carolina, on December 22, 1988. He is the son of Jimmy and Cathy Hudgens. Ty loved learning in school, on the farm, and at his Papa’s car lot. He grew up strong, kind, and full of personality, endeared by all who met him.
Corporal Hudgens enlisted in the United States Army, completed Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina and was stationed in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where he met his future husband Roman Paul Hudgens who is also a United States Army Veteran. Ty was a combat medic, a leader of soldiers who always placed their needs above his own. For his honorable service, Ty was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Overseas Service Medal.
Dr. Hudgens was a lifelong learner who committed himself to improving the communities around him. He is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, California State University Bakersfield, and the University of South Carolina. Ty was a diligent scholar who built lifelong friendships with educators and fellow classmates through their shared passion for advocacy and the improvement of healthcare systems.
Ty was a respected healthcare executive who was sought after by many for his talent and unique approach to healthcare leadership. His colorful personality and enthusiasm endeared him to many of his colleagues. Ty was a gardener, a home chef, and the heart and soul that brought life to their home. He was the best husband, son, and dog dad anyone could ask for.
Along with his husband and parents, Ty is survived by his grandmother Faye O’Dell, sister Christa Hudgens, nephew Jebb Wyatt Yokeum and Mason Yokeum, aunts Susan O’Dell, Darlene Murphy, Melissa Brown, and Terri An O’Dell, cousins Kayle Boyd, Drake Roberts and many more family members.
Ty is preceded in death by his grandmother Helon Jefferson, Papa Terry O’Dell, and Papa Jimmy Hudgens Sr.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Ty on Sunday, November 5th, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton, MA. His funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Ty will be honored and remembered in Anderson, SC, on Thursday, November 9th, from 11:00-12:30 p.m. at Sullivan-King Mortuary and Crematory 3205 N Highway 81, Anderson, SC. His funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. Ty will be laid to rest with US Military Honors from 2:00-2:30 p.m. at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery Anderson, SC.
