Edward F. Maher, 74, of Littleton, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday July 26, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born February 19, 1950 he was the son of the late Edward and Mary (McGovern) Maher. He was the loving husband of Louise (Pakstis) Maher to whom he was married to for 52 years.
Edward graduated from Littleton High School in 1967. After he graduated he went to college at Lowell Tech Institute and studied Electrical engineering, then went and achieved his masters degree at Worcester Poly Tech where he studied Biomedical engineering. Edward then decided to join the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and happily retired as a Colonel in January of 1994.
Edward has achieved so many lift time goals from earning a Doctor of Science degree in radiological protection and health from Harvard School of Public Health, to being assigned to Human Systems Center Armstrong Laboratory Brooks AFB in Texas. In 1986 Following his military retirement Dr. Maher was certified for comprehensive practice by the American Board of Health Physics. Dr. Maher then joined Arthur D Little Inc in Cambridge MA as an Associate Director in occupational safety and health and manager for the Radiation Policy and Tech Unit from 1994-1997 . Edward then was a Former Laboratory Director at Yankee Atomic Electric Company from 1997-2004. Edward worked as a Former Associate at NV5/Richland from 2004-2020. Edward also was an Adjunct Faculty at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health from 2005- present. In 2004 Dr. Maher joined Dade Moeller and Associates where Dr. Maher retired in 2020.
Edward Maher was not just a brilliant scientist but a hard worker, a wonderful Husband, Father and Pop Pop. If it was on his hands and knees during tummy time, to then putting worms on hooks, or screaming and cheering from the bleachers at games. Edward took pride in his grandchildren and would bend over backwards for them. No Pop Pop was as great as Edward. Besides the grand kids you would find Edward and his lovely wife, Louise, traveling from Paris to Argentina and any other amazing sites in the world. He and his wife were long life partners, meeting at a young age as teenagers. Together for almost 52 years shows everyone that true love exists. Besides his wife, he loved his two daughters, Molly and Rebecca. He would go to all their dance recitals, cheer competitions, color guard meets and so much more. He was their biggest fan, and even after growing up still looked at them as his little girls.
Along with his mother and father Edward is survived by his Wife Louise Maher, his daughter Molly Crawford, Son In Law Justin Farnsworth, Grandsons Troy and Kyngston Crawford, His Granddaughter Faith Brawswell, His daughter Rebecca DeJonge, Son In Law Jade DeJonge, Grandson Connor, Granddaughter Bella. He also leaves his sister Eilleen Flight, Sister Mary Alice Meaney and Brother Brian Maher. Along with sister in laws, brother in laws and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Edward for a period of visitation on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 4:00PM to 6:30PM at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St. Littleton, MA with a service at 6:30PM. Full military honors will be presented immediately following the service. Burial will be private.
