Edward Allan Perkins passed away on Monday, February 17th, 2025 at the Life Care Center in Littleton. He was born September 5th, 1950 in Bridgeport Connecticut to George W. Perkins Sr. of New York and Amelia Perkins of Connecticut. After graduating high school, Edward attended the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT and graduated in 1973. In the Coast Guard he served on the U.S.C.G.C. Hamilton.
After his service in the Coast Guard, Edward entered into the field of computer technology. Throughout his career he worked at many companies including Sun Microsystems, Fidelity, Automatix Inc. and Open Software Foundation. He also worked on the Hubble Telescope.
Edward and his family moved to Groton, MA in 1991. He was impressed by the open spaces and woodlands and the Town Center. He enjoyed serving the community by volunteering on Town committees including the Computer Technology Committee, Greenway Committee, and the Stormwater Management Committee, the latter of which he served as chairman for several years. Edward leaves behind a legacy of support for environmental conservation and service to the town of Groton.
Edward was an avid sailor despite the fact he was on the U.S.C.G.C. Eagle during a hurricane. He loved sailing his Hobie Cat and later his Cape Dory out of Salem Massachusetts. Edward was a music lover and an avid supporter of the Groton Hill Music Center.
He loved being at home with his wife and dogs. Over the years four Corgis and a Golden Retriever accompanied him on long rambles through the woods around his home. Working on his home and yard gave him great satisfaction. Edward cherished all the wildlife, birds, deer, bears, fisher cats and other creatures that visited the property.
Edward is survived by his wife Carolyn Perkins of Groton, stepson Evan Lash of Easthampton, brother George Perkins and sister-in-law Ruth Perkins of Finksberg Maryland as well as his niece Becky Macaluso and nephew Nate Perkins and his wife Amy and their children.
