Eleanor “Ellie” M. (Post) Carmichael age 93 of Arlington, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the Mariam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland, MA. She was the wife of the late John “Bob” R. Carmichael Jr. who died in 2015.

Ellie was born in New Haven, CT on June 20, 1931, a daughter of the late Albert and Mabel (Anderson) Post and sister, the late Virginia Krill. Ellie was raised in Hamden graduating from Hamden High School.

Ellie and Bob were married for 65 years. In 1956, moved their family to Arlington, MA where together they raised their ten children. Ellie was a devoted wife and loving mother, tending to their every need all while running her own typesetting business for 14 years and working full-time as a secretary for 17 years at Manter Hall School until it closed. Ellie then worked at Armstrong Ambulance until she retired at 80.

Ellie had a strong faith and prayed the rosary daily as well as attending weekly mass. She belonged to St. James/St. Camillus Parishes in Arlington and Blessed Trinity Parish St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Westford.

During her spare time and retirement, Ellie enjoyed spending time with her large extended family as well as frequenting Rockport and Gloucester beaches, was an avid sports fan (Red Sox and Patriots) even attended a game or two in her 80s all the while supporting her children and grand/great-grandchildren in the many, many sports they participated in and other interests such as musical instruments. Ellie also enjoyed taking car rides with her husband, eating sweets (Brigham’s ice cream), reading, puzzles, bird gazing to name a few.

Ellie is survived by her children Joseph Carmichael of Webster; Sheryl Carmichael-Acker and son-in-law David of Fremont, CA; Mary Collins of Tyngsboro; Dianna Carmichael of Chelmsford; Barbara and son-in-law Joseph Davis of Danbury, CT; Janet Booth of San Martin, CA; Brenda Carmichael of San Jose, CA; Walter and daughter-in-law Kristen Carmichael of Westford; daughter-in-law Jennifer Carmichael and the late John R. Carmichael, III, Brian D. Carmichael, and son-in-law Arthur "Buck" W. Collins, Jr.; 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and honorary family and friends.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Ellie for a period of visitation on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 9:30-10:45 am at Blessed Trinity Church St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 107 N Main St., Westford, MA. Burial at Beaverdale Cemetery, New Haven, CT will be private.
