Estelle Mague Glavey age 86 of Littleton passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at her residence. She was the loving wife of 65 years to Alfred F. Glavey.
Born in Newton on April 10, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary Leda (Metivier) Mague. Raised in Newton until the age of 10, when the family moved to Littleton. She was educated in Littleton and graduated from Littleton High School where she was President of the class of 1948. She later attended Fitchburg State Teachers College earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
Estelle and Alfred married on August 18, 1951 and settled at the Glavey farm homestead in Littleton where together they raised their loving children. Estelle worked as an elementary school teacher with the town of Groton, then began a career in antiques where she enjoyed building Estelle M. Glavey Antiques, Inc. of New Ipswich NH into one of the most renowned antiques businesses in New England, before closing the business last year.
During her spare time and retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, travel, reading, playing bridge with friends, gardening, spending time at the family cottage at Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey NH, and collecting the specialty antiques of Bermuda and Nantucket. She was the first Prefect at the St. Anne’s Parish Sodality. She was also very active over the years in the Littleton Country Gardeners, the Littleton Historical Society, and as a volunteer at the former Nashoba Hospital.
Along with her devoted husband Alfred, she is survived by her children Mark F. Glavey and his wife Alice of Siloam Springs, AK, Matthew W. Glavey and his companion Teri McHugh of New Ipswich, NH, Luke A. Glavey and his wife Sandy of North Campton, NH, Paul J. Glavey and his companion Robin Desmet of Littleton and Methuen, and Rebecca G. Waugh of Littleton. She is also survived by her brother George Mague and his wife Donna of Chichester, NH, her grandchildren Marisa Rosario, Andrew, Emily, Nathan, Ryan and Stephanie Glavey, and Jared and Lindsey Waugh, as well as six great-grandchildren . She was also predeceased by her son John C. Glavey, brothers, Charles (and wife Frances) Mague, Herbert (and wife Marion) Mague, and sisters June Mague and Audrey (and husband Harry) McMahon.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Estelle on Wed., Nov. 30 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Thurs at 9:00 am in St. Anne Parish, 75 King St., Littleton. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton.
