Everett Arthur Garvin

Garvin of Groton, Dr. Everett Arthur Garvin Ph.D. Died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 15, 2013 at the age of 90. He was a retired psychologist and educator. He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Norma Joy Ibbotson Garvin; son Michael of St. Louis, MO; son Mark and wife Jill of Andover, MA; son Reid of Alton, NH; daughter Holly Raymond of Townsend, MA; and seven grandchildren.
A resident of Groton, MA, he was born in Worcester, MA on July 30, 1922. He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1939 and served honorably in North Africa and Italy during WW II. After discharge, he was educated at Antioch College, Tulane University, and Washington University in St. Louis, where he received his Ph.D. in psychology. He moved his young and growing family to Groton in 1962, where he took a position a professor of psychology at Fitchburg State College. Known by hundreds of students as Dr. G, he taught for more than 30 years, serving also as chair of the department.
He had a passion for healthy living and exercise, playing tennis weekly until the day before his passing.
A memorial service is planned for September 14 ,2013 2 p.m. at the First Parish Church of Groton Unitarian 1 Powder House Rd. Groton.
