Frank “Pops” Johnson, loving husband, devoted father, adored grandfather, and loyal friend, died on October 10th, 2024, at the age of 78, surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born on July 18th, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, Frank lived a life of love, dedication, and passion for both his family and his many interests.
After graduating from Guilford CT High School in 1964, Frank joined the United States Air Force and proudly served as a jet aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and the respect of his fellow servicemen. Frank continued to pursue his love for aviation and graduated from East Coast Aero Tech after his service.
Frank ultimately found his calling and had a long and fulfilling career as a carpenter, where his craftsmanship and attention to detail were unmatched. Over the years, he built two homes for his family and worked on countless projects that reflected his dedication and skill.
Frank’s meticulous nature and craftsmanship extended to his personal projects as well. Frank spent countless hours restoring his beloved Tyrol blue 1967 GTO, a car he cherished and worked on for years. The GTO, a recreation of the car he had in his youth, stood as a testament to Frank's perfectionism - every detail, from the mechanics, to the body work, to the upholstery, was flawlessly restored to showroom condition. Frank was a longtime member of the Yankee Chapter of the Pontiac Oakland Club International, forming lifelong friendships with fellow enthusiasts who shared his love for classic cars.
Frank was an avid sportsman, who was lucky enough to bring home many trophies throughout his life, but his greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Lynne, for 52 years; a loving father to his daughters Amy Johnson, Elizabeth Washington and her husband Shon; and a treasured grandfather to Travis Monahan and his girlfriend Chyann Nenonen, Daniel Monahan and his fiancée Alex Gearty, Emily Monahan, Trey Ilevbare, and Stephen Schofield.
Frank was a man of great strength, humor, and dignity, and even as Lewy Body Dementia took so much from him, it could never take away his love for his family or the memories they shared. His love for Elvis, his ability to build anything, his meticulous care for his GTO, and his tireless dedication to those he loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Frank for visiting hours on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton, MA. His funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm. Burial with U.S. Air Force Military Honors at Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Frank’s name to Disabled American Veterans. Please mail donations to DAV National Headquarters at 860 Dolwick Drive, Erlanger, KY 41018, ATTN: Remittance Processing/DAV In Memorial.
