Gary Stuart Roth

June 1, 1950 — November 21, 2017

Gary Roth, 67, of Littleton, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Lifecare Center of Nashoba Valley. Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Paul Roth and Charlotte (Snyder) Roth. He leaves behind Catherine Howland, his longtime companion and best friend of many years.

In addition to his devoted partner, Catherine, Gary is also survived by his nieces Rachael Brayley and Ariel Brayley and numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and second cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Sue Ann Brayley.

He graduated from Springfield High School and earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a M.S. in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University/RPI. Gary was a devoted engineer and immensely enjoyed his work. He was passionate about the Patriot Missile System and devoted his life to ensuring its success. He retired in 2017 as an Engineering Fellow.

He was a lifelong learner who always tuned into National Public Radio while in the car. Gary was most content sitting at the beach at his summer cottage in Maine surrounded by his dogs and working through a crossword puzzle. He was beloved for his patience and intelligence, and at Raytheon he was appreciated for his willingness to help colleagues by sharing his expertise. Gary was a cat person until Catherine introduced him to the Japanese Chin. His love for the breed inspired the great care he took keeping their many rescue Chins happy and healthy. He was a constant presence at the Littleton Animal Hospital.

A memorial service celebrating Gary's life will be held at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton at 11:00 AM on Sunday, November 26th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Luv-A-Chin Rescue, P.O. Box 243, Redwood Falls, MN 56283 or the Kidney Cancer Association, 9450 SW Gemini Drive #38269, Beaverton, OR 97008-7105
