George Elliott Bentley

George Elliot Bentley passed away peacefully at his home in Littleton , MA on January 8, 2021. George was 93 years old and was born on December 29, 1927 in North Grosvenordale , CT.

George was the son of the late Charles Elmer Bentley and Lenora LaChance Bentley.

George leaves his sister Jaqueline Bentley Roberts , children Darlene Bentley Shnaper and Bruce Bentley, 7 grand children and 2 great grand children.

George is predeceased by his wife Barbara Jane Hume Bentley, siblings Marion Bentley Miner, Bernard Bentley, Charles W. Morris Jr.and Lillian Morris Brodeur.

George grew up in New London county primarily in East Lyme. George became a Master Carpenter who learned much of his trade from his father Charles Bentley. George enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. He served as a mechanic in the Navy and was honorably discharged at the age of 20 in 1947.

In 1950 he married the love of his life Barbara Jane Hume. George and Barbara started their family while living in New London. George worked at Charles Pfizer and Company and often worked a second part time job with local builders. He spent the rest of his career working on many of the largest construction projects in the area including units 1,2 and 3 at the Milestone Nuclear Power Plant.

George and Barbara bought a home on Pattagansett Lake in East Lyme and moved their family there in 1960. They routinely hosted gatherings at the lake. Family and friends have fond memories of summer parties hosted by George and Barbara.

George was a gentle soul who lived his life by the simple mantra " treat people the way you want to be treated". His family and friends meant everything to him and he was fulfilled by his relationships with them. When asked what he wanted his reply was " a few kind words and a smile".

He will be greatly missed and our love will be with him always.

A celebration of George's life will be announced at a later date.
