George Thomas LaChance

November 23, 1941 — May 7, 2015

George Thomas LaChance, age 73, beloved husband of Patricia Ann (Wood) Lachance, passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side, on May 7, 2015 after a long battle with lung cancer. Born in Rochester, NH November 23, 1941 to George A. and Pauline R. (Vachon) Lachance, he was the oldest of five children including Paula Mabey and brothers David, Dan and Michael Lachance. He attended Holy Rosary School in Rochester until his family moved to Portsmouth, NH where he attended Portsmouth Junior and Senior High Schools and graduated in 1960.

He enlisted USN, August 1960 and discharged August 1965 with a year extension serving in Vietnam, attaining the rate of HM3/Petty Officer 3rd class while serving aboard the USS Helena and USS Columbus and serving in the Balboa US Naval Hospital in San Diego. While aboard the USS Helena (CA75) he hoisted the N.H. State Flag at the Seattle World's Fair in 1962. Later he was transferred to the USS Columbus (CG12) one of the first guided missile heavy cruisers and which took him to Vietnam. After his military service he studied and then became a Respiratory Therapist and retired in 2002.

George has four children by his first marriage to Joan Semprini, including Nicole Thompson and her husband Christopher, of Greenland, NH, Danielle Peele, of Deltona Florida, Stephanie Semprini and her husband James Dumont of Portsmouth, NH, and Antoinette Oliver and her husband Tim of Greenland, NH. He also has ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He met and married former classmate Patricia (Wood) Phipps in 2008 and was also the stepfather of Patricia's five children, Suzanne Cutts and her husband Robert of San Francisco, California, Robert Cutts and his wife Jane, Sharon Metras and her husband William, and Daniel Parker and his wife Jennifer, all of Pepperell, Massachusetts and Katherine Joyce and her husband David of Lancaster, MA and nine grandchildren.

Patricia and George enjoyed traveling to Maine and Florida and other places on the East Coast and both were members of the Grace Baptist Church in Pepperell, Massachusetts. George was a brave, warm and loving man who loved fishing and shared his love with grandchildren and their friends. George is now with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed by his wife and their families and his many friends all over the country.

On May 16, 2015 at 1:00 pm there will be a Military Ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery on Heald Street, Pepperell, Massachusetts. There will be a memorial service following at 2:00 pm to celebrate George's life at the Grace Baptist Church, 42 River Road in Pepperell, Massachusetts.
