Gerald Everett “Jerry” Merrill, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in Groton, Massachusetts. He was 79 years old. Gerald was born September 7, 1943, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine to the late Omar B. Merrill and Kathryn (Decker) Merrill.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife Joan (Newton) Merrill, with whom he celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on Monday, July 10, 2023. He is also survived by his children Gerald Merrill Jr. and Dawn, Pam (Merrill) Irish and Tony, Brian Merrill, Mark Merrill and Kristie, and Denise Merrill. His siblings Charles Merrill and Jane, Jeff Merrill and Nora, Nancy (Merrill) Danforth, and Debbie (Merrill) and Scott Landers. He leaves behind a vast number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Gerald is survived by beloved lifelong friends Lewis and Joyce Lunn, as well as many many others.
Anyone who knew Jerry knew he had an avid love of hunting, fishing, and traveling between Maine and Florida in his motor home. Jerry had many personal and professional achievements throughout his life including obtaining his pilot’s license and teaching the younger generations to fish and hunt. He enjoyed watching westerns and true crime. He had a quick wit and thoroughly enjoyed teasing his family and anyone who was close by.
Words cannot express the immense void left by Gerald’s passing. He will be missed tremendously.
A celebration of his life will be held later date.
