Gerald J. Tierney, 85, of Pepperell died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton surrounded by his loving daughter and son-in-law. He was the husband of the late Jennie A. (Niedzwiecki) Tierney with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
He was born in Lowell, MA on March 18, 1929, the son of the late Joseph E. and Mary E. (McCaffrey) Tierney. He was educated in the Lowell School System and later proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force for 20 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the U. S. Postal Service for over 18 years, retiring from the Billerica Post Office in 1986. He was a resident of Tewksbury, MA for over 20 years before moving to Pepperell. He was an active member of the Pepperell Knights of Columbus, Council #317 where he served as a Chancelor. He was a 4th Degree member of the Bishop Beaven Assembly, a member of the Frank West Post #213 in Pepperell and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #99 in Fitchburg, MA.
He leaves a daughter, Lisa M. Morton and her husband, Robert J. Morton of Pepperell, several sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tierney was predeceased by seven brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Frances, Bernard, Christopher, Raymond and Frederick Tierney and two sisters, Mary Constant and Rita Morgan.

Relatives and friends may call at the MARCHAND FUNERAL HOME, 16 Pleasant Street, Pepperell on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Tewksbury, MA.
