Gertrude McLocklin, affectionately known as Trudy, 95, formerly of Littleton Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024 at Bowman Place in Bedford New Hampshire. Born to the late John and Gertrude Larkin in Boston Massachusetts on June 14, 1929.
Trudy is survived by her children Joanne Barry and her husband Tom, Jean Jeffords and her husband Jason, Stephen McLocklin and his wife Kim, Susan Vincent and her husband Peter and Elizabeth Hobart and her husband Geoffrey; her daughter-in-law Mary Lou McLocklin; her grandchildren Holly McLocklin Wade, Emily McLocklin, Matthew Barry, Patrick Barry, Peter Barry, Lea Anne Mundis, John Pannell, Dylan McLocklin, Mitchell McLocklin, Morgan Vincent, Katherine Hobart and David Hobart; 12 great-grandchildren; her brother Albert Larkin and his wife Margaret (Peggy); her sister-in-law Shirley Larkin and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Richard McLocklin and her eldest son Richard McLocklin Jr.; her parents John and Gertrude, her brothers John and wife Pricilla, George and wife Lorraine, Lawrence and wife Antonina (Toni), Ralph and her sister Rita.
Trudy was born and raised in and around Boston. Growing up as the oldest of seven, she was deeply dedicated to her family, playing a vital role in helping her mother run the household. The formative period of The Great Depression and World War II instilled in teenage Trudy a profound sense of resilience and determination, traits that would shape her character and influence her life in the years to come. She was a beloved daughter and sister who cherished being surrounded by her parents and siblings, finding joy in watching her brothers and sisters grow into wonderful, caring adults. Being raised in the Catholic faith, the church and her faith was a cornerstone of her upbringing, deeply shaping her values and beliefs. Her faith provided her with a strong moral compass guiding her through life's challenges and instilling in her a deep sense of compassion, humility, and service to others.
After graduating from Roxbury Memorial High School, Trudy began her adult life working at Harvard Business School. It was there, amidst the bustling academic environment, that she met her future husband, Richard. Their shared experiences at Harvard Business School marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership, eventually leading to marriage and the start of a family. Later in life, she pursued nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), dedicating most of her nursing career to Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts. Following her retirement, Trudy and Richard continued their service by volunteering at Emerson for an additional 20 years.
As the matriarch of our family, Trudy was a devoted wife, a caring and loving mother, and a dedicated grandmother and great-grandmother. She also embraced her role as a cherished aunt, always ready to offer support, affection, and guidance to her nieces and nephews. Trudy cherished every moment with her family, providing unwavering support, affection, and wisdom. She reveled in her role as Nana, finding immense joy in nurturing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and warmth created lasting memories and touched every generation of her family.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Trudy during visiting hours on Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton, MA. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Badger Funeral Home. Her burial will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton, MA.
