Gladys (Hulbert) Upson of Littleton died in Branford , CT on April 26, 2014 at the age of 99. She was born December 31, 1914 in Mobile, Alabama, daughter of the late Maurice and Katherine (Martin) Hulbert and was the wife of the late Neville U. Upson who died in 2002.
She married Neville on October 15, 1941 and they traveled the world through both the military and retirement where they lived in Japan and Germany. She was a Registered Nurse by profession graduating from the Mather School of Nursing, New Orleans, Louisiana, with "The Academic Prize".
Gladys was a stay at home mother while rearing her two daughters. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Littleton for more than 58 years, enjoyed playing bridge, was a great cook and a compassionate friend and neighbor. She was involved in the community and especially with the Littleton Lyceum. She also played the piano, was a soprano and enjoyed singing with her husband who was a baritone. She possessed a fighting spirit in adversity and also showed kindness and love.
Mrs. Upson is survived by two daughters, Linda Upson Rasmussen and her husband Dr. Roger Rasmussen of Los Angeles, CA, and Patricia King and her husband The Reverend Stoddon King of Orange , CT. She has three grandchildren Paul Rasmussen, Dr, Carolyn Rasmussen and her husband Dr. Michael McCarthy, and Stuart King and a great grandchild Desmond McCarthy.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 11 am.
