Attorney Henry S. Miller Jr.
of Shirley formerly of Groton

Henry S. (Hank) Miller, a patent attorney until his retirement in 1995, died peacefully on Friday August 7, 2015. Born on August 23, 1934 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Henry S. Miller Sr. and Elizabeth (Bowyer) Miller. Surviving him is his wife and caregiver of fifty-five years Dolores (Drzewiecki) Miller formerly of Watervliet, New York and a sister Donna Spellman of Delmar, New York.

Henry was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army serving with the 38th Artillery in Korea and was also a member of the 9th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colorado. A member of the Massachusetts and Federal Bar, He graduated high school from St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam, New York and received a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York and was awarded a Juris Doctorate Degree from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston.

Prior to his retirement, Henry was a patent attorney in the greater Boston area for many years and later practiced general law in central Massachusetts. He was active in the Boston Patent Law Association, chairing committees on ethics and discipline and Inventor's Weekend at the Boston Museum of Science, and was also a volunteer assistant to the director of the Harvard University Semitic Museum. He also gave extensive volunteer time representing neglected and abused children, children in need of services, and other care and protective matters in addition to representing mentally ill clients. He worked at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, DC as an examiner in the electronics field and at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as engineer in Niskayuna, New York.

Henry enjoyed traveling and visited all fifty states, and 11 provinces of Canada. He shared his love of travel with his wife and children taking summer cross country trips, which included Newfoundland and Alaska. He was a scout leader, and hockey coach when his children were young. A winter sports enthusiast, He was a member of the Ski Patrol for twenty years.

He participated in a number of civic activities including community leadership in the 1970's, working with youth groups to control the use of illegal drugs. His efforts were recognized by the Arch- Diocese of Boston. While living in Groton, he was very active in the community and was elected and appointed to many boards and commissions. He assisted in establishing a town ambulance and rescue service and served as an Emergency Medical Technician for 20 years for the Town of Groton. He was qualified to

Perform several specialized light rescue work and was a certified scuba diver. For relaxation he would cruise the highways and byways of New England on his motorcycle. After moving to the Town of Shirley, he was an active member serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals

In addition to his wife, five children survive him: Mark Miller of Westford, Michelle Airy of Pelham, NH. Paulette Wright and Scott (Kelly) Miller of Townsend, MA and Cheryl Wuoti of Worcester MA. Fourteen grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a sister and brother-in- law Marion and Harvey Dickson of Troy, New York. He was also predeceased by granddaughter, Laci Wright.

Funeral from the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street Groton on Thursday, August 13 at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Phoenix Street, Shirley at 10 am. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial at Groton Cemetery Groton.
