Iola Maria (Ciccarelli) Scalese

Iola Maria (Ciccarelli) Scalese age 94 of Groton passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Life Care of Nashoba Valley in Littleton. She was the wife of the late Vincent N. Scalese.

Born in Lawrence, MA on November 7, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Guarino and Maria (Busico) Ciccarelli. Raised and educated in Lawrence she graduated from Lawrence High School.

Iola married Vincent and soon settled in Groton where together they raised their loving family. Iola cherished her role as mother and devoted herself to her family. A devout catholic Iola was active in the former Sacred Heart Parish in Groton, she worked there for many years as religious education administrator. She was loved and admired by all who knew her.

Iola enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking.

She is survived by her loving children Vincent N. Scalese and his wife Jean of Thornton, NH, Mary Dufur and husband James of St. John, US Virgin Islands, Robert F. Scalese and his wife Carol of Carlsbad, CA, Theresa Kozachek of Franklin, and John P. Scalese and his wife Cheryl of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather for Iola's life celebration on Monday, February 6 from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, 107 N. Main St., Westford. Burial will follow at Groton Cemetery.
