Irvin W. Sliger, 99, a longtime resident of Pepperell, died Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at his daughters home in Jaffrey, NH where he has lived for the past year and was lovingly cared for.
Irv was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 3,1921, a son of the late Wayne H. and Julia F. (Hahn) Sliger. Mr. Sliger was a proud U.S. Marine Corp Veteran serving during WWII in the Galapagos Islands. He retired from the Massachusetts State Police and then went on to work and retire from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles in October 1991. Irv was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3291 in Pepperell. He enjoyed and was so proud to be seen marching in every Pepperell Memorial Day parade with his son, Rob and all the other military service members. Irv loved to go fishing with his children and grandchildren, and country dancing with his dance partner and friend Sandra Cote.
He is survived by seven children, Cheryl Pineo and her companion, Thomas Rousseau of Jaffrey, NH, Denise Schofield and her husband Timothy of Pepperell, Robert Sliger and his wife Michelle of Ctr. Barnstead, NH, Cynthia Babin and her fiance' David Petito of New Ipswich, NH, Sharon Pelland and her husband David of Bolton, Carole Devine and her husband James of Naples, FL, and Cathy Brown and her husband Lonnie of The Villages, FL, 4 step-children, Scott Keohane and his wife Diana of Rockville, MD, Sharon Keohane of Newton, Debora Keohane of North Brookfield, and Michael Keohane of Newton, and, one sister, Jean Sliger of Lancaster, CA, many grandchildren to include Julia Pineo who was so instrumental in his care this last year, several great grandchildren, a nephew, and many wonderful country dancing friends.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Irvin on Friday September 3, 2021, from 9:00am – 11:00am at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton. His service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial with United States Marine Military Honors will be at Riverside Cemetery in Saugus at 1:30pm.
