PEPPERELL - James R. Archer, age 86, a longtime resident of Pepperell, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 in Leominster after a short illness surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of June (Wheeler) Archer with whom he shared 47 years of marriage with on April 23rd.

He was born in Medway, MA on October 4, 1925, a son of the late James S. and Antoinette (Silva) Archer. He was educated in the Littleton, MA School System. Mr. Archer served in the U.S. Navy during WWII attaining the rank of Motor Machinist's Mate Third Class and receiving the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal 4 Stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal 1 Star. Prior to retirement, Mr. Archer was a truck driver for United Transportation of Leominster, and a member of the Teamster Local 170. Once retired, he was a bus driver for Buckingham Bus Company. He was a life member of the Pepperell VFW Post 3291. Mr. Archer was an avid Red Sox Fan, enjoyed Harness horse racing and spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert Archer and his wife Nancy of Pepperell, five daughters, Patricia Lounsberry and her husband Alan of Port St. Lucie, FL, Gail Shappee and her husband John of Freehold, NJ, Mary Smart and her husband Skip of Chester, NH, and June Wojnar and her husband Steve of Pepperell, and Heidi Crim of Townsend, a brother, George Archer and his wife Julieanne of Groton, his mother in-law, Mary Wheeler of Pepperell, a very special and loving sister in-law, Maureen Wheeler of Pepperell, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Emma Landry and Hilda Archer.

Visiting hours at the MARCHAND FUNERAL HOME, 16 Pleasant Street, Pepperell on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
