James W. Barton, age 81, of Pepperell died unexpectedly on August 19th at the Life Care Center in Acton, MA. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth I. (Archibald) Barton who died 1997 after sharing 40 years of marriage.
He was born in Methuen, MA on Sept. 13, 1932, the son of the late Wilfred H. and Mabel (North) Barton. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and continued his education at Merrimack College. Mr. Barton served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a resident of Pepperell for the past 52 years and was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Parish, worshipping at St. Joseph's Church, Pepperell. Mr. Barton was employed at Thermo-Electron Corporation in Waltham, MA for 25 years as an IC Engineer. He loved fishing, hunting, football and motor sports.
He leaves a son, Michael W. Barton of Pepperell; a daughter, Janet J. Westgate and her husband James of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, John N. Barton and his wife Carol of Palm Bay, FL and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the MARCHAND FUNERAL HOME, 16 Pleasant Street, Pepperell, MA on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Parish, worshipping at St. Joseph Church, 28 Tarbell St., Pepperell, MA. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pepperell, MA.
