James Patrick King, 90, resident of Ayer, formerly of Bedford, MA passed away peacefully at home on December 20th surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He entered the United States Navy when he was sixteen years old and turned seventeen when he was in boot camp. During World War II he served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Shangri-La. He was called back to service during the Korean War. He was a member of the Pipefitters local 537 and is retired from the New England Telephone company as an engineer. He also attended Wentworth Institute of Technology with a focus on Mechanical Engineering.
Jim and Kay loved to travel with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and cooking. He loved keeping company with his sons black lab "Bud" they kept each other entertained, provided companionship to each other and went on adventures on a daily basis.
Family was always an important part Jim's life especially his great grandchildren. Jim was loved very much by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
Jim was the beloved husband of the late Kathryn (Sexton) King. He is survived by his son, Chief Matthew King of the Littleton Police Department, his daughter Allyson (King) Raffaelo and her husband Robert Raffaelo of Chelmsford, Grandchildren, Marie (Raffaelo) Luppold of Tyngsboro, Christine Raffaelo of Chelmsford and Robert Raffaelo of Ayer, Great grandchildren, Amber and Justin Uzzell of Chelmsford and Joshua Luppold of Tyngsboro. Jim is the beloved son of the late, Michael and Isabella (Savage) King, brother of Mary Marchioni of Conway, NH and the late Margaret Brady of Watertown & Maureen Lewis of Randolph. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In his final weeks he was lovingly cared for at home by caretakers, Pearl, Emelia, Roselyn and Nana. He developed a friendship immediately with all of those wonderful ladies. The family would also like to thank Nashoba Nursing Service for the care they provided to Jim and to ensuring his comfort.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Jim on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 4-8 pm at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton.
