Jane R. Allen, 74, of Groton MA, succumbed to Multiple Myeloma after successfully keeping it at bay for more than 13 years - a feat that never ceased to amaze her medical team. She is survived by her husband of 52 year, James; her children Todd M. and Junghwa Allen of Rockville, Maryland; Douglas M. and Ellen M. Allen of Billerica, Massachusetts; and Jessica (Jessa) Allen and Tico Gangulee of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren include Jamie and Jake Allen, Matthew and Elizabeth Allen, and Roan Gangulee Allen.
Give her a subject and she’ll tell you a story.
Jane Allen was brimming with stories - about her children and family, her life, her community, her adventures in the world of estate– and she loved to tell them.
If you had the pleasure of knowing Jane, you know that she generously shared herself and her wisdom through storytelling. After all, as Frank Delaney asks in his novel Ireland, “who would we be without our stories?”.
Born in 1947 in Hamden, Connecticut, Jane attended the University of St. Joseph, where she met her husband, James (Jimmy) Allen. They married in 1970, and settled in Thomaston, Connecticut, while Jane taught in Hartford. In 1982 the couple moved to Groton, and Jane did substitute teaching until 1986 when she began her 36 year career at MRM Associates as a real estate broker. Known for her local market expertise and her sincerity, she remained as an active broker until her death. Jane participated in many town activities, including the Growth Management Committee, as well as two terms on the School Committee, and she served as the only woman on both Charter Review committees. Beginning in 2005 Jane served as a Trustee of the Groton Public Library, and the library always had a special place in her heart.
Jane was especially proud of her family, and her favorite stories were always of them.
