John Quincy Ames, a longtime Littleton resident, formerly of Concord, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, April 14, 2019. He was 78 years old.
John was born in Concord, MA on May 17, 1940, a son to the late Harold and Sybil (Martin) Ames. John was raised in Concord and graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School in 1958. A town staple in both Concord and Littleton, John worked at Snow's Pharmacy, Anderson's Market as well as Nuclear Metals in Concord. He will be remembered by Littleton residents for not only working for the Town, but for "Ames Farms," a retail flower, pumpkin and Christmas tree farm stand. John was a lifelong member of the Elks and Musketaquid Club in Concord. He was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He loved visiting Crossroads and Tiny's for a bite to eat and in addition to spending many summers in Kennebunk and Wells, ME, he also enjoyed antique cars and playing cards… but only Canasta! John was truly a friend to all and will be dearly missed.
John is survived by his children; Jo-Ann Sutherland and her husband David of Littleton, Elizabeth Ames and her partner Scott Armstrong of Lagrange, ME and Thomas Ames and his wife Catherine Thissell of Acton; his grandchildren, Amanda, Zachary and Matthew Sutherland, Angela Bryden, Garrett Armstrong and Aaron Ames; and his great-grandson, Alexander Gnini. He is further survived by his former wife Elena (DiFranco) Ames of Chester, ME and his longtime dear friend Kathy Croft of Ayer.
In addition to his parents, John is sadly predeceased by his beloved sister, Ruth E. Ames.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember John for a period of memorial visitation on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM in Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton.
