John W. Francis

December 14, 1960 — April 11, 2024

Acton, Massachusetts

John W. Francis, 63, of Acton, MA, unexpectedly passed away in his sleep on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Devoted husband of 27 years to his wife Donna. Loving father to Colleen and Katherine. Caring uncle to Sarah Lynch and numerous other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother, Marjorie Cremin (Gavin) of Quincy, his sister Christine Lindsay of Weymouth, and his brother, Paul Francis of Plymouth. He was predeceased by his father, John W. “Jack” Francis.

John was born in Boston, raised in Quincy, and graduated with a master’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. His career spanned 30+ years, with stints at Kodak, Polaroid and eventually retiring from the Collins Aerospace division of Raytheon. His work took him to such places as England, Poland, Greece, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Morocco. John loved to try new foods and frequently brought home recipes for the many dishes he enjoyed during his travels.

He was known for his love of learning, which cut across countless topics and was seldom seen without a book or listening to a podcast. He regularly placed holds on new releases at the library so that he could read them as soon as possible. Two particular topics of interest to John were bread baking and cheese making. Retirement provided John with the opportunity to hone his skills which he did through taking meticulous notes in keeping with the scientist he was. His family were the beneficiaries of his artisan interests. Friday and Saturday nights in John’s household were filled with music, laughter, and the opportunity to enjoy his creations of the week.

Always one to lend a helping hand, John was a mentor to many and was fiercely dedicated to his family and supported them in their health, lives, and endeavors. His unassuming manner made him a beacon for others who sought his counsel and delighted in his wit and kindness.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember John for a period of visitation on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St. Littleton, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 10AM at St. Anne’s Parish, 75 King St. Littleton, MA. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton, MA.
