It is with deep sadness and great love that we announce the passing of John R. MacDonald. John was born in Boston, MA, on January 13, 1932, to Angus and Lena (Grace) MacDonald. A devoted family man with the biggest heart, John’s kind soul brought comfort and strength to those around him. A big kid at heart, he will be remembered for his joyous presence, generosity, sense of humor, and the unwavering love he shared with family and friends throughout his life.

John proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was a linotype operator for the Malden Evening News for over 30 years.

He leaves behind family and friends who will forever cherish the love, guidance, and memories he gave so freely. Though hearts are heavy with loss, gratitude remains for the time spent with him and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind. John is survived by his remaining siblings. Richard, Margaret, Patricia and Ann-Marie. He is also survived by his two children, Deborah (MacDonald) Cappucci and Jon MacDonald. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Nicole Russo, Erik Cappucci, and Jenna Szocik. Great-grandchildren, Dylan and Alexis Gould, Zachary and Ryan Cappucci, Jacob and Kyle Szocik, and countless nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

John was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine. As well as his siblings, Daniel, Eugene, Raymond, Joan, Evelyn, and Theresa.

John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. We’re sure Heaven’s Gate is unlocked for him, but we know he’s busy holding it open for everyone else.
