John F. Tierney

John F. Tierney, age 76, a lifelong resident of Pepperell died May 23, 2012 at the Legends Rehabilitation Center in Gardner, MA after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Arlene F. (Knight) Tierney with whom he shared over 30 years of marriage until her passing in 2010.
He was born in Pepperell on February 3, 1936, the son of the late Thomas J. and Sophie C. (Cutler) Tierney. He was educated in the Pepperell School System. Mr. Tierney served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1961.
He was employed by the Town of Pepperell Department of Public Works, Water Division for many years. He served as a Firefighter for over 45 years on the Pepperell Fire Department, Engine Company #1 and was a firefighter for the Fort Devens Fire Department for over 20 years. He served as Grand Knight of the Pepperell Knights of Columbus, Council #317 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pepperell Post #3291.
He leaves two sons, Gregory Tierney Mawn of California and Michael A. Tierney and his fianc�e Candace of Derry, NH; two brothers, Thomas J. Tierney, Jr. of Georgia and Paul E. Tierney and his wife Daisy of Pepperell; three sisters, Patricia T. Sawtelle and her husband Donald of New Hampshire, K. Wanda Makela of New Hampshire and Judith Gillogly and her husband Edward of Pepperell; three step-daughters, Kris McAllister of New Hampshire, Kathy Carter of North Carolina and Kelly Oko of California; several grandchildren, many many many nieces and nephews and his loving dog, Leroy Brown.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 1 to 4 p.m.at the Funeral Home followed by a service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Pepperell Firefighters Association.
