John C. Truex

September 21, 1946 — February 18, 2023

Westford, Massachusetts

John Charles Truex, 76, of Westford, MA, formerly of Plymouth, MA, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his home. Born September 21, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of the late Spencer and Phyllis (Broadfield) Truex. He is survived by his daughter, Stephany Godfrey, her husband Jim, and his grandchildren Spencer and Molly, as well as his sister Susie Haight and her husband John, his brother Mark Truex and his wife Dawn, his sister Midge Brown and her husband Andy.

John was raised and educated in Hyde Park, NY.  He was active in the Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Life Scout, and was an altar boy at St James Epispocal Church. As a teen, he spent time volunteering in the church cemetery, which he credits for his love of gardening. Following his graduation in 1964 from F.D. Roosevelt High School, he enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. There, he met his wife Mary (Sullivan) Truex and was a brother in Delta Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves and served in Willow Grove, PA as a Hospital Corpsman. John and Mary then moved to Plymouth, MA, opened their Chiropractic office, and welcomed their daughter, Stephany. After a dedicated 46 year career helping his patients, he retired in 2018 and moved to Westford to be near his family.

Throughout his life, John was known by many names. Skip to his friends and family growing up, Trixy to his fraternity brothers, Dr. John to his patients, and Poppie to his grandchildren. He had a passion for gardening and cooking, a love for learning and teaching, and a heart that was so generous. Over the years, he had many hobbies, including flying Swift airplanes, skiing, enjoying the night sky, and bird watching. He volunteered his time as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 48 in Carver, MA. He remained friends with many of his classmates, brothers, colleagues and neighbors, and leaves a legacy of friendship, kindness, and the embodiment of the motto that ‘Life is Good.’

Friends and family will gather to honor and remember John for a period of visitation on Saturday, February 25th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, in the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton. His funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm.  Burial will be private.
