John Wesley Whitney

July 8, 1943 — May 28, 2026

Hollis, New Hampshire

John Wesley Whitney, 82, a longtime resident of Hollis, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 28, 2026. He was the loving and devoted husband of Darlene (Duggan) Whitney, with whom he shared a beautiful life and countless cherished memories.

Born in Ayer, Massachusetts, on July 8, 1943, John was the beloved son of the late John W. and Ruth (Atwood) Whitney. He grew up in the area and graduated from Littleton High School in 1961. Shortly after, he married his soulmate, Darlene, and together they built a foundation of love, family, and lifelong companionship.

John spent his career doing what he loved as an airline mechanic for Eastern Airlines. His passion for mechanics was matched only by his deep love for the great outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, John found immense joy in the tranquility of nature, whether he was hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, camping, or ice fishing.

As the years passed, John discovered a new passion that allowed him to relive his childhood fondly: antiquing. Alongside his wife and his son, he spent hours scouting for hidden treasures. His eclectic collections spanned from vintage Coca-Cola bottles to his ultimate pride and joy—his antique car.

John’s greatest legacy is his family. In addition to his beloved wife, Darlene, he is survived by his children, Tammy Morey and her husband Sean, and Cally Whitney, as well as his daughter-in-law, Lisa Whitney. He was predeceased by his cherished son, John Whitney III.

He is also survived by his dear sister, Patricia (Whitney) Lyon; one niece; three nephews; and a large, legacy-filled family of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought endless joy to his life.

A service to honor John's life will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Grace Baptist Church, 42 River Road, Pepperell, MA. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation hour from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, immediately followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at East Cemetery, 24 Wheeler Road, Hollis, NH.
