In the early morning hours of February 23, 2025, our beloved Joseph "Joe" J. Corbett, danced his way to the stars, leaving behind a world that was infinitely more colorful and joyful for his presence. Born in Arlington, MA on October 21, 1952, Joe was a lifelong resident of the town, living here for 72 years. He was a creative, funny, spirited, and witty soul, who mastered the art of living with panache and flair.
Joe was a renowned hair stylist, with a career that spanned decades at Paul Mammola's Salon. He had a knack for making everyone who sat in his chair feel like a star. His creative spirit, however, wasn't confined to the world of hair. Joe loved painting, dancing, and listening to Ronnie Specter. He had an adventurous streak, evident from his young age when he would occasionally skip a day at Catholic school to explore Harvard Square. Even his choice of pets was adventurous, having kept a skunk and a monkey in his youth.
As Oscar Wilde once said, "To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." Joe certainly lived, and he lived with an infectious enthusiasm that touched everyone he met. Joe, in his witty and funny way, had a unique ability to bring laughter and light to any situation. In his company, there were no strangers, only friends waiting to be discovered. He loved his dog Molly and his various cats over the years, treating them as family. His home, just like his heart, was always open. Joe could tell a story like no other and entertain family, friends, and strangers for hours. His love for life, his thirst for adventure, and his spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his nieces and nephews, Terry Geldart, Peter Geldart, Robert Armstrong Jr., Michael Corbett, Donal Corbett, and Jamie Corbett. Joe was blessed to have Henry Rachlin as a dear friend. Henry cared for Joe and his dog Molly when Joe fell ill. Henry was an angel sent from heaven in Joe's time of need and the family will never forget his selfless kindness. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Evelyn Corbett, his sisters Joan Geldart and Donna Armstrong, and his brother Donal Corbett.
His family and friends will remember him as a beacon of joy and a true original. As we say goodbye to Joe, we invite everyone who knew him to celebrate his life in true Joe fashion. Share your stories, your laughter, and your love for our dear friend, uncle, and brother. Please leave your memories and upload photos to Joe's memorial page. Let's remember Joe as he would have wanted us to — with laughter, love, and a good dance.
A burial is scheduled for Spring 2025 in Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton, MA. Family and friends are invited to join Joseph's celebration of life that will be held on July 5, 2025.
