Joseph Thomas McCumber, age 75, of Littleton, Massachusetts, passed away surrounded by his family on August 24, 2025, at Bridges in Westford.
Joe was born in Norwich, Connecticut, on August 16, 1950, the son of the late Joseph and Eileen (White) McCumber.
He graduated from Lowell Tech in 1972 with a BS in Nuclear Engineering. Joe worked on designing and then decommissioning power plants all over New England, Virginia and Illinois. After his retirement, he continued to consult in the industry.
Joe and his family lived in Littleton since 1976, and he was an active participant in the community. He was a Light and Water Commissioner for 29 years and an usher at St. Anne’s (Blessed Trinity) for many years. In addition, he found great joy in coaching soccer for not only his children, but many others in town. Joe traveled extensively with his wife Chris, with New Zealand and Iceland being two of his favorites. Playing basketball, golf, and kayaking were some of his favorite hobbies. He was never one to miss a yard sale or a chance to greet and pet any dog that passed him by. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family especially his three grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 53 years Chris and his children, Jonathan McCumber and wife Erica of Lowell and Shannon LaPointe and husband Josh of Littleton. He was known as Bumpa to his three special grandchildren, Colby and Maeda LaPointe and Juniper McCumber. He was the brother of Steve McCumber of Hull and the late Robert Dulac of CA. He will also be mourned by his extended family.
Joe was an incredible husband and father, a funny friendly and caring guy, and he will be always loved and missed by those lucky enough to have known him.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Joe for a period of visitation on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton, MA.
