Josephine (Lapomarda) Sgroi, 85 and a longtime Littleton resident passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021. She was the wife of the late Melvin Sgroi.
Josephine was born in Portland, Maine on May 5, 1935, a daughter to the late Pasquale and Mary (Bartholmew) Lapomarda. Josephine was born and raised in Portland, Maine. As a young adult, Josie moved to Massachusetts where she got married and raised her children in Somerville. After her children were grown, Josie went on to obtain her bachelors degree at the University of Massachusetts, Boston- an accomplishment she was very proud of. Josie loved to crochet and spend endless hours doing jigsaw puzzles. Josie has spent the last 10 years living with her daughter Vicky here in Littleton, where she got to enjoy time with her children, grandchildren and great grand children.
Josephine is predeceased by her son, Richard Minchillo, her sister Concetta and her brother Pasquale, Jr. She is survived by her children; Steven Sgroi and his wife Maribeth of Woburn, Victoria Humphrey of Littleton and Deborah DelGenio of Hudson, NH. She is also survived by her siblings; Rev. Vincent Lapomarda, SJ of Weston, and Virginia Lapomarda of Maine as well as her grandchildren; Lisa, Jessica, Jeremy, Angelina, Julia, Samuel, Isabella and Grace, and her two beloved great grandchildren who she loved spending time with, Philip and Devin. Josephine is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Josephine for a period of visitation on Monday March 29, 2021 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am in Blessed Trinity Parish- St. Anne Church, 75 King Street, Littleton. Her funeral mass will be celebrated in the church at 10:00 am. Due to Covid-19 limitations, church attendance will be limited to family only. Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton.
