Katherina Susanna (Vorholzer) Haug, also known as Kate, passed away peacefully at the Nashoba Valley Life Care Center on October 14, 2023, at the age of 97. She had a sweet disposition and was always smiling.
Kate was born March 13, 1926 in Heidelberg, Germany to Louis and Rosa (Weiler) Vorholzer. She graduated from Buffalo (NY) Public High School in 1944. After high school, Kate worked as a key-punch operator for Linde Air Services in Buffalo.
Kate served in the Women’s Army Corps from 1950 to 1953. While stationed in Germany as part of the Allied Occupation Force, Kate rose to the rank of Corporal. During her service in Germany, Kate met and married her husband of 55 years George, who was a Sargent at the same time.
For 10 years, Kate served the schools in Bethel, Connecticut working in the cafeteria. In her spare time Kate enjoyed her hobbies, such as camping, crocheting, bingo, and meeting friends at the senior center.
Kate is survived by her son James Haug and his wife Susan; her three grandchildren David and his wife Katie, Melissa Haug-Furgeson and her husband Don and Stephanie Goodwin and her husband Mike; her sisters-in-law, Audrey Wilson, and Margaret (Diddy) Haug; her great grandchildren John, Annie, Natalie, Kyle, Aimee, Nick, and Alex, and several nieces and nephews.
Kate is predeceased by her beloved husband George Haug, her son Thomas Haug and her sister Charlotte LaWare.
A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in South Salem, New York.
