Katherine C. Savage

December 16, 1944 — April 21, 2026

Dracut, Massachusetts

Katherine Carol (McDonough) Savage, 81, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, following a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in South Boston, MA (Southie), Kathy eventually made her home in Dracut, Massachusetts, in 1975, where she built a life centered around family, education, and community.

A natural educator, Kathy held a degree in Early Childhood Education and dedicated multiple decades to shape young minds. Her impact as a teacher was felt across the Lowell, Massachusetts, and Wilmington, North Carolina, school districts, where she taught kindergarten through second grade. Her passion for teaching didn't end in the classroom. She was an avid swimmer and shared her love of swimming by teaching everyone from preschoolers through fellow retirees how to swim. She thought it was never too late to learn. Later in life, she shared her strategic mind and love for social connection by teaching Bridge to others. Whether it was helping a child find their first words in a book, celebrating the thrill shared with someone taking their first strokes in the water on their own, or guiding a friend through a complex hand of cards, Kathy was a patient and dedicated mentor.

Beyond her professional life, Kathy was an avid sports enthusiast. A loyal and passionate New England Patriots fan, she could often be found cheering on her favorite teams.

When she moved to Dracut, she found a way to allow her kids to play soccer in the then-fledgling town league (they needed coaches, so she signed up her husband, Keith, to coach). She was then a loyal team mom to the teams her son and daughter played on for years to come.

She also served as a Girl Scout troop leader and CCD teacher, and sewed her own costumes for Square Dancing, which she enjoyed with her husband, Keith.

She possessed a wonderful personality—warm, engaging, and bright—that drew people to her and made her a beloved figure among her friends and neighbors.

Kathy was the devoted wife of the late Keith Edward Savage, with whom she shared 50 beautiful years of marriage. She was a loving mother to her two children, Keith C Savage and Kareen Bacinski, who survive her and carry forward her legacy of kindness and spirit. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Riley and Megan Bacinski, and step-grandson Matthew Dube.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers or donations, please take some time celebrating your family and perhaps try something that would be Kathy-approved - dance a jig, go for a swim, play cards, or cheer on your favorite athletes.
