Kiyoko (Kawakami) Farina, 88, of Pepperell. MA and formerly of Waterbury, CT, was reunited with her husband in heaven on Sunday, August 12, 2018. She passed peacefully at the home of her daughter Dora Kashiwabara.


Kiyoko was born in Tokyo, Japan, on April 16, 1930, daughter of the late Syouzaburou and Turuno (Miyazawa) Kawakami. In 1955 she immigrated to the United States to Waterbury, CT. She worked for Scovill/Century Brass for 28 years until her retirement in 1992.


Kiyoko learned to cook Italian food from her mother-in-law. Her cooking and Ravioli will be remembered by all. She was also an avid baker. She carried on all family traditions until 2007, at which time she moved to the home of her daughter in Pepperell, MA.


The family would like to thank the Merrimack Valley Hospice nursing staff for all their help, also Cooperative Elder Services Inc, of Groton, MA, and their staff for making Kiyoko’s 9 years of crafts, bingo and sing a longs an enjoyable part of her day. A very special thanks to Lilla DiTullio RN for the loving care she showed to Kiyoko over the last 9 years.


Kiyoko leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Dominic A. Farina of Watertown, Edward J. Farina and his wife MaryAnn of Lumberton, NC , Masao A. Farina of Long Island, NY and Dora K, Kashiwabara and her husband Merrill of Pepperell, MA. She also leaves behind her siblings; Saeko Sudo and Morimasa, Shigeo and Masahari Kawakami all of Japan as well as her seven grand children and her eleven great grand-children and many nieces and nephews. Kiyoko also leaves a sister-in-law Marie Farina, daughter-in-law Marsha Walker and best friend Houda Abousaada all of Waterbury. She was predeceased by her siblings; Masao and Syozo Kawakami of Japan.


Arrangements: Calling hours will be heldSunday from 4 - 6 p.m.at the Marchand Funeral Home,16 Pleasant Street, Pepperell, MA.
