Obituary

L. Garold Westbrook, 91, of Lancaster, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, at home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara Charlesworth Westbrook and their two children, Elizabeth Fetterman (and husband Michael) of Lancaster Massachusetts and David Westbrook of Nashville Tennessee, a sister Inez Rowena Freeman (and husband Curtis) of Lebanon Tennessee, his uncle Dale Latimer (and wife Della) of Truth and Consequences, NM, five grandchildren and five great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

Garold was born on the 9th of July, 1935, on the family farm near Mansfield, Wright County, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father, Joel Lloyd Westbrook; his mother, Geneva Latimer Westbrook; and his brother, Lawrence Berdell Westbrook.

Garold worked in pharmaceutical sales for over 30 years. Upon retirement, he worked part-time as a technician for LensCrafters, learning a new skill.

The Westbrook family are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and participated in an outdoor musical pageant in Nauvoo, Illinois, for 17 years. Garold played the lead role of Joseph Smith from 1979 through 1986.

Garold served his country in the Army Reserves from 1961 through 1967, during the Vietnam War era. He enjoyed serving in the American Legion both at Post 17 in Gallatin, Tennessee, and later at Post 96 in Lancaster, Massachusetts. He found many friends and valued his service to the Legion.

His hobbies were woodworking and family history research. The Westbrooks are of Dutch descent and came to America in the 1600s.
