Lois Maurer Melillo, 85, of Pepperell, MA, formerly of North Haven, CT, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013, after a brief illness. Born September 10, 1928 in New Haven, CT to Philip Jacob Maurer and Marjorie Ellen (Smith) Maurer, she was the beloved wife of John Lawrence Melillo for 54 years until his passing in 2002.
Lois was an active member of First Baptist Church of Littleton and the Pepperell Senior Center, and through the years loved to participate in aerobics, line dancing, and bingo. She lived out her faith in church and community in generosity, delivering Meals on Wheels and supporting Grotonwood Camp. In her earlier Connecticut years at Montowese Baptist Church she advocated for elderly housing and labored for the establishment of Connecticut Baptist Homes.
Lois challenged herself and those around her with her love of words and word puzzles. She and John had the opportunity to travel widely, and particularly loved their vacations in the Caribbean with beloved friends.
Above all, Lois treasured and delighted in all of her family. She is survived by her children, Barbara Nolte of Clermont, FL, John (Joan) Melillo of Hudson, MA, and George (Tricia) Melillo of Mason, NH; 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; her brother Robert (Jeanne) Maurer of North Haven, CT, her sister-in-law Patricia Maurer of Yarmouth, ME, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Pete.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Littleton, 461 King St, Littleton, MA 01460, November 9, 2013, at 2pm.
